Auditions for H.M.S. Pinafore!

The McGill Savoy Society is proud to announce auditions for its 2015 production of HMS Pinafore! H.M.S. Pinafore; or, The Lass That Loved a Sailor is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and a libretto by W. S. Gilbert. The story takes place aboard the British ship HMS Pinafore. The captain’s daughter, Josephine, is in love with a lower-class sailor, Ralph Rackstraw, although her father intends her to marry Sir Joseph Porter, the First Lord of the Admiralty. She abides by her father’s wishes at first, but Sir Joseph’s advocacy of the equality of humankind encourages Ralph and Josephine to overturn conventional social order. Auditions are being held in the Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre, in the Montreal Neurological Institute (3801 University) at these times: Sat. Sept 13th from 12-4 p.m. Mon. Sept 15th from 7-10 p.m. Wed. Sept 17th from 7-10 p.m Please come prepared with a minute-long song from classical or musical theatre (before 1960) repertoire in English (Gilbert and Sullivan being preferred) and bring 2 copies of the song you intend to sing, one for the pianist and one for the panel. Callbacks are Sept. 20 from 11a.m.-3 p.m. For callbacks, you may be asked to sing a specific excerpt from the show which will be made available to you 2 days before callbacks.
