Art for Trial by Jury

Trial by Jury is Gilbert and Sullivan’s second collaboration and their oldest surviving comic opera. It is unique among their works in being a one-act show with no spoken dialogue. Originally running as a companion piece to Offenbach’s La Périchole, Trial has become the most successful British one-act operetta of all time. The plot, a satire of corruption in the legal system, concerns a case of breach of promise of marriage in a court where everyone involved is something of a hypocrite.

The McGill Savoy Society is proud to present an online version of Trial by Jury as a side show, with a presentation of the full musical scope of this classic one-act operetta. The production premiered on YouTube on June 26, 2021.
