Since time immemorial, desperate men have used art and poetry to attract women, with varying levels of success. Reginald Bunthorne is one of those men. Shallow and boorish, he has taken advantage of a village’s sudden obsession with aesthetic poetry to win the affection of every woman in town, who all become artists in their idolization of him (much to the frustration of their dutiful soldier fiancés).

Bunthorne’s triumph is short-lived, however, for the woman he desires most is the confident and carefree milkmaid Patience, who rejects love, art, and poetry altogether. That is, until her childhood sweetheart — the impossibly handsome poet Archibald Grosvenor — arrives and upends the village’s carefully cultivated affectations. Patience playfully mocks 19th-century poetic fads, performative artistry, and romantic absurdity in a maddeningly hilarious satire that feels as relevant today as ever.

Experience Gilbert and Sullivan’s hilarious operetta satirizing pretentious poets and fad chasing in Savoy’s first Moyse Hall Theatre production since 2023 and our first production of the show in nearly 40 years on February 13th, 14th, 20th, and 21st!
